Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is evidence based practice?

This means we use treatment therapies based on psychological concepts that are supported by research. ie Research trials that have demonstrated significant measures of success.

-Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

-Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).

Are currently popular and recognized as solution focused treatment modalities.

  • What can I expect from my consultation?

From this perspective of an evidence-based approach, we would see a person as a complex whole. This includes the interaction of your thoughts and beliefs with emotions, your actions, your biology, and how the environment impacts on you.

The focus could be on how to resolve your problems and release burdens that are thwarting you in your life. A sensitive, trained therapist can show you how to alter unhelpful patterns and habits, and create new, more helpful ones.

You will discover new ways of thinking and acting, so that you can live your life, the way you desire, and be truly authentic.

Such guidance and support enables you to attain your goals, gain personal power that may have been lost along the way or never knew you had.

  • Who can benefit from psychological consultations?

Anyone who is suffering from substantial distress and/or disruption to their lives can ask for help. Treatment can be effective for many psychological disorders.

People who do not have a psychological disorder, but are looking to enhance their well-being, performance, or quality of life can also benefit.

You may have a referral from your family doctor, psychologists  work in alignment with other clinicians such as massage, kinesiologists, acupuncturists , and medical specialists for good health.

The way we think has influences on the way our body functions. We have all experienced how negative, angry thoughts can bring us down so, positive thinking patterns can directly and powerfully benefit our physical health.

Our services are relevant to anyone who is ready to make a change for the better in their life.  You may be in transition between jobs, roles at home, have lost a loved one recently, or even going through several challenging personal life transformations at the same time.

These changes may concern many psychologically based issues, such as sleep disturbance, improved well-being, gaining confidence, reducing distress, anxiety, anger, and managing fluctuating moods.

  • How long does it take?

This varies from a few for simple issues to 8-16 for more complex concerns. We arrange therapy at a pace that suits you. For medicare rebateable sessions , reviews, in which your further needs are discussed,  are arranged after 6 sessions.

The initial session is 1-1.5 hours at the same cost as a standard session. This allocates time for your history, new goals and a flexible schedule that you are comfortable with.
