Chocolate keeps stress at bay
When I read that, I thought that research has got to be funded by a big chocolate company!
Sure enough, Nestle, headquartered in Switzerland has come up with scientific studies to show that eating about an ounce and a half of dark chocolate a day for two weeks reduced the levels of stress hormones in highly stressed people.
It is generally known or rationalized that its ok to eat dark chocolate to ward off depression, but now we have strong evidence that a daily consumption of 40 grams is sufficient to modify the metabolism of healthy humans.
The study, published in ASC’s Journal of Proteome Research, comes amid growing scientific evidence that antioxidants and other beneficial substances in dark chocolate may reduce risk factors for heart disease and other illnesses.
Well the nutritionists may warn that chocolate is fattening, but this is great news for chocolate lovers and mental health professionals. At last we can recommend something more appetizing to our stressed out clients.
There are many strategies to cope with anxiety and depression, it would be really helpful to talk it out with someone and munch on chocolate at the same time. Hey why don’t we call it “Mind and Munchies therapy”?
