Many people come to me complaining of insomnia and inability to sleep. When it starts to affect your concentration and even getting yourself to work, it’s generally accepted as serious enough to call in the counsellors. Better sleep keeps the body healthier and the mind more alerts (Counselling Northern Beaches).

More information on CBT
If you’re experiencing anxiety to the point of being nervous all the time, overwhelming depression that you can’t even get out of bed, resorting to addictive behaviours as eating not because you’re hungry but for comfort or becoming so scared or fearful that you avoid all company, help can be there for you. Psychotherapeutic treatments such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a way for you to get through your difficulty and improve your situation.
Whenever I tell people that I am a psychologist, I just wait for that reaction from them, they usually back off, put up an invisible shield and run. I marvel at how that word invokes such suspicion and fear. I suspect that thought “I must be really crazy” should really be delegated to those primitive innate fears like a fear of snakes or spiders and hasn’t been categorised yet as a modern urban new fear.
Specific concepts and techniques are taught in each session. CBT focuses on your personal goals. We do not tell you what they should be or what you should tolerate. We are directive in the sense that we can show you how to think and behave to achieve what you want. So, CBT therapists do not tell you what to do, rather we teach you to How to do.
Does this sound familiar? It could have come from your partner or an acquaintance in the midst of a rip roaring, screaming match. Don’t be put down by others ever again. Learn how to think clearly.
CBT theory and techniques rely heavily on the Inductive Method.
A central aspect of Rational thinking is that it is based on fact.
You can save a lot of energy by not wasting your time getting upset about situations, when in fact the situation isn’t at all like you think it is.
The inductive method encourages us to look at our thoughts as being hypotheses or guesses that can be questioned and tested.
If we find that our hypotheses are incorrect as we get new information, then we can change our thinking to be in line with how the situation actually is.
